The TV - VCR Project

6th, 7th and 8th graders (below) at Griswold Elementary School in Helix, Oregon, gather for their presentation of a $900 check to be used to benefit children in Romania. Instructor Renee Schuening, left, spearheaded the project.

Dave Conklin receives check (below) from Griswold students during their presentation ceremony. Helix students earned all the money by working on various projects in the community. Sufficient money was raised to purchase a TV-VCR for a Romanian school, fresh fruits for orphans and street children; plus, there was almost enough money was left over to repeat the project at another Romanian school.

(below) Alex is the inspiration behind this project. Heart for Romania brought Alex to America for medical treatment. He attends the Helix school when he is in America for medical treatment, and the Helix children wanted to help Alex's school back home in Romania. Alex is shown here holding the check that was used in his school on the other side of the world.

(below) Alex gives a speech in front of his Romanian school assembly, thanking the Helix school for their generous gift.

(below) Dave Conklin makes the official presentation of the TV-VCR to Sibiu School # 6. The school's English teacher, Mrs. Danny Bibu and Ioan Mosneag, the school music teacher & educational director, look on.

(below) Mara Cimpeanu, a young Romanian artist from School #6 in Sibiu, presents Dave Conklin with a framed "icon" - a traditional painting of Christ. The picture was later presented to the Helix school.

(below) Students and faculty at Sibiu's School #6 gather for the "presentation assembly", where the school officially received the TV-VCR from the students in Helix, Oregon. In spite of the nation's poor economy (where the average worker's salary is $70-$100 per month), the Romanian students raised $230 on their own to enhance their school equipment.
