HERMISTON DENTAL TEAM HELPS KIDS IN HONDURAS

Dr. Ryan Wieseler, two staff members, Lisa and Ashley, and his daughter, Delaney, arrived

in Honduras in June of 2024 to provide dental care for the children of La Villa de San Francisco. This is the second dental trip to Honduras for Dr. Wieseler and his team and Heart for Hope appreciates their support of our program.

This team joined our 3 Honduran dentists and together they were able to provide dental care for over 300 kids in one week. In addition to the 4 dentists caring for the kids, Dr. Wieseler's hygienist, Lisa, applied sealants to the teeth of many youngsters. This procedure helps prevent decay in permanent teeth for many years. These types of preventative efforts combined with the dental education lessons of Dra. Gloria means that a number of these children will finish school with excellent dental health.

At the conclusion of the week, it is common for the school staff to present our volunteers with certificates of appreciation. In addition, the children will often provide some entertainment such as a dance performance. In the following picture you can see some of our volunteers joining the kids on the dance floor.

Our volunteers also enjoy time in the evening to play games, visit, and put together a jigsaw puzzle or "el rompecabezas" as the say in Spanish.

Another key component of our team is our cook, Emalina. The food we enjoy is excellent prepared by her every day. When we had an electrical outage, she quickly shifted from the electric range to the "fogon". The food was just as well prepared. In fact, when she is in her home, she only uses this traditional method of cooking.

Finally, it is important to note the many partners we have that support our endeavors in Honduras. As an example, for this brigade, we featured Burkhart Dental Supply. This company has generously donated tens of thousands of dollars of dental supplies over many years. A special thanks to them for their help.

This was another very successful trip for our volunteer team to Honduras. In addition, you will find another blog describing the work of our construction team members that were part of this group. If this seems like something you might enjoy doing, please feel free to contact us through this website.
